Description

This kinda goes with the passenger pigeon: fav.me/d7bj1g6 , both are extinct and share the title of my favorite bird.

The carolina parakeet lived in North America, the parrot that was native further north than any other.
They feasted on cockelburs extensively.
At the time of the plume war (not a normal war, one that can be seen as people's war against birds), feathers were worth twice as much as gold for their weight, and many birds were killed for the fashion industry. I never understood fashion, especially when it comes to wearing dead birds on your head. The carolina parakeet was a victim of this war, as were some egrets, with their fantastic tail/wing feathers during breeding season.
Apart from that, another major factor was destruction of its habitat.
To be honest, it was also partially a mystery... It doesn't quite add up. There's so much we don't understand about nature. There must have been something else going on we didn't know about.
As with the passenger pigeon, the last one was in a zoo. The name's not quite coming to me... I believe it was Incas. Incas died 1918, and the species was declared extinct 1939.
